Opportunities
To Help
There are numerous opportunities to help people in
need in your own community and also those who are in need of assistance
throughout the world.
1. Start with yourself and ask God to work through you in helping
with some of the areas listed on Project Hunger's website. If you
are not from Grand Island, NE or the surrounding area, talk to some
of your friends and find a way to get started like Project Hunger
did. There are many ways to act, it's no secret.
2. Be aware that one out of every five throughout the world has
less than one meal a day to live on and that God has provided ample
food for everyone if we will only share.
3. Remember that you are not alone; countless others are willing
to help, especially if they are asked.
4. Don't feel sorry for those in need; consider them an extension
of yourself. Besides, who ever did much for someone they felt sorry
for?
5. Remember that the needs of others can be lightened if there is
a desire to help along with a plan of action.
6. Start and maintain a Food
Bucks program in your area; it won’t get started until
you take action.
7. Work as a team with others who share your desires to assist those
in need. Don't try to do things by yourself.
8. Start a savings method yourself to help others and daily contribute
to it. When you see that the nest egg has grown, put it to use before
you change your mind and spend it on yourself.
9. Develop a DVD brochure to show others the needs of your community
and how your team is addressing those needs.
10. Create a speaker's bureau to share with the community opportunities
to help you in your efforts. Remember, helping others is contagious.
11. Ask your local media sources (newspaper, radio and TV) to help
share your planned events with the community.
12. Ask for help and support from your area churches, schools, civic
clubs and groups along with keeping governmental authorities informed
of your goals and efforts.
13. Always act today; otherwise you might start looking for an excuse
not to act at all.
